Stand up for our soldiers

What a sad, sad, idiotic world we live in.

We have 280 soldiers facing possible court charges for acts carried out in war.

We have a Government which sends our troops into battles wherever they please, and then expects them to play by kindergarten rules.

I would inform the Government that for anyone who has been in combat there are no rules.

It’s kill or be killed, and by any means available.

They brought out stupid ROE (Rules of Engagement) in NI where you could shoot someone only if they were pointing a weapon at you, and then they applied that to Iraq and Afghanistan.

We had the same inquiries after the Falklands when they said that during hand-to-hand combat we were bayoneting an enemy and then shooting them.

While atrocities are alleged after every conflict, it is the disgrace of the British Government to allow human rights solicitors to try and prosecute soldiers for what they have done in battle.

They are very happy to shelter under the safety net provided by those who risk life and limb, and then attempt to say they were wrong.

Don’t get me wrong.

It is possible that wrong things were done, but unless you have experienced the heat of battle you would not understand.

As for torture, I don’t know if any took place or not, but would you rather someone was deprived of sleep or water-bagged if they gave information that saved even one of our soldiers’ lives?

I do know that if any of our soldiers got captured in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, or Syria, the least they would get is a very close shave, not given a drink of water!

It is time for the Government to stand up for the soldiers who they send to fight.
