Steve will tackle London Marathon to help Hartlepool hospice

A man has challenged himself to the run the 2016 Virgin London Marathon for the Hartlepool & District Hospice after they won a limited charity place in a ballot.

The hospice has awarded their extra place to Steve Callaghan and he will be running in memory of his mum and father-in-law, who both received care from the Hospice.

Steve said: “Every step will be in memory of my mam, Jo, and more recently my father-in-law, Peter, who each received care, love and understanding in the wonderful patient led Hartlepool Hospice.

“Some of us will have a connection in one way or another to the awful disease that finds people in hospice care and therefore are aware of the wonderful work the hospice does for life limiting illness.”

Steve has pledged to raise £2,000 for the hospice by asking people to join him and “sacrifice the price of a beer” to sponsor him.

Fundraiser for the hospice, Greg Hildreth, said: “Steve has shown such warmth and dedication to the Hospice, he was the obvious choice.

“He also has a personal affinity with our work, which has clearly motivated him.

“I would like to thank him, on behalf of everyone at the hospice, for this commitment.”

The hospice are supporting Steve and are asking people to sponsor him to help him reach his target, as he raises money for specialist care at the hospice.
