Award-winning barber Mucktaru Kargbo proved that he can more than cut it by giving a demonstration at East Durham College's Peterlee campus.

Mucktaru, known as MK for short, travelled up from in London to spend two days at the campus working alongside staff and students.

His visit to the Willerby Grove campus culminated in a show at its Lubetkin Theatre. That show saw Mucktaru giving several demonstrations of the techniques he has been honing for the last 20 years, along with performances by students from the college’s creative industries department and Peterlee’s Anita Harris School of Dance.

The event was aimed at creating better links between students and hair salon employers across the north east.

Mucktaru said: “We have had a fantastic time up in the north east the past couple of days with East Durham College. We have had great fun working in their state-of-the-art facilities, and I hope the students have taken some tips and techniques away from the sessions we have held with them.

“The show we put together was a great success, and it was lovely to meet some of the north east’s great barbering community.

“A huge thank-you must go to Alison Scattergood, from the college, who has helped put this event together and to the creative industries department and also the dance school for their performances.
