Hartlepool Divers Club, based in Harbour Walk, at the Marina in Hartlepool, is holding a ‘try dive’ event on Sunday.

It will take place in the swimming pool at Dyke House School, off Raby Road, between 4pm and 5pm.

The club hosts the free sessions – which are for those aged 14 and over – on an annual basis, and hopes to teach people how to dive safely.

Dave Armstrong, the club’s training officer, said: “We’ve done this for years as a way to get new members to the club and also to teach people the basics.

“It’s just to give them an insight into what diving is like, and an hour is ample time to know whether you like it or not.

“Some people come with the intention of learning how to dive and getting used to being under water ahead of a holiday, while others take it further and join the club.

“We’re happy to cater for them all, because we just want to show people how to dive in a safe way.”

Club members meet every Thursday and Sunday between 8pm and 10pm at the Marina.

Anyone interested in joining the club, or taking part in the taster session, should contact 07940 524569 or send an email to [email protected]

Those attending the try dive event should bring their own shorts and a T-shirt, but all other items of equipment can be provided on the day by the club.

Qualified instructors will guide them through the basics, including entering the water and breathing under water.
