Terrified kitten saved from hole after being dumped in field

The young male cat was found under a concrete horse trough near Horden cemetery.

He was rescued by Graeme Foggin of East Durham Animal Ambulance after he was called by the RSPCA who were called out to a more urgent case.

A witness had reported seeing a man dump a bag of cats, believed to be a mother and her kittens, a day earlier but all the other cats had disappeared.

He is thought to be only four weeks old and had been under the trough for around a day without any food but was otherwise quite healthy.

Graeme, 53, who worked for the RSPCA for over 20 years, said: “This one seemed to have been left behind and had hid where he could.

“He wasn’t trapped but was frightened and didn’t want to come out.

“He was not in too bad a condition, he was just traumatised by the whole thing.”

The as yet unnamed kitten is currently staying with Graeme.

But the cat is expected to be rehomed with a woman in the Darlington area.
