They walked for miles to support cancer fight in Hartlepool

A group of friends have walked their way to a funding boost for charity - and not for the first time.

The boost for the treatment of breast cancer care comes courtesy of keen volunteers who headed from Hartlepool to Seaton Carew and back.

Kath Dodsworth, Sandra Dobson, Joan Veart, Alison Aston, Val Kitching and Linda Cruickshank were the walkers who helped raise £355 for breast care at the North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust.

The group walked from Hartlepool Marina to the Clock Tower at Seaton Carew - and back again - and collected donations along the way.

And it’s not the first time they have boosted worthy causes as the same group did a similar walk last year and raised £380 for the treatment of breast cancer.

But despite helping others, the modest walkers wanted to pass on their own thanks to everyone who supported their fundraising initiative.

Val said: “We would like to thank our families, friends and all of the kind people who donated during our walk for their contribution to this very important service.

“It was amazing to listen to some of the stories of some of the people who donated on our walk to realise how common breast cancer is, I think we all know someone affected by this type of cancer.”

Breast cancer nurse Karen Milburn, who was presented with the funds, said: “We really appreciate this very generous donation.

“All of the funds used will go directly back into patient care and help us make improvements so we are providing the very best care to patients.”
