Town man to appear in crown court charged with wounding police officer

A Hartlepool man is due to appear at crown court later this month charged with wounding a police officer.

Jamie Shillaw, 36, of the town’s Whin Meadows, appeared before Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Monday, May 29, charged with a section 18 wounding and possession of a knife.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Teesside Crown Court on June 26 at 10am.

The charges relate to an incident which is alleged to have happened on Saturday, May 27, when police officers were called to the Spar Store in King Oswy Drive in the town at 6.45pm following reports of a disturbance.

A policeman received lacerations to his forearm from a knife at the incident and a man was tasered and arrested by officers.
