Moore hopes to complete the loan signing, but does not expect it to be in time for tomorrow’s home game against Wycombe Wanderers.

He said: “The way it has gone we probably won’t have him in for this weekend, but hopefully we will have him for Tuesday.

“I am confident about that.

“We are looking for a striker who has got a bit of pace and strength and knows the division inside out.”

Mailsport reported this week that Pools have had bids for two players rejected, but Moore confirmed that the potential new signing is not one of those players.

Pools have struggled for goals following the injury to top scorer Billy Paynter, with Scott Fenwick and Rakish Bingham scoring just five league goals between them.

But Moore also said the loanee would not be the last striker the club look to sign during the transfer window.

“We are looking to bring somebody in permanently and also a loanee, so we are hoping that the loan player will be in for the game against Accrington on Tuesday,” he said.

“We have put bids in for two players which have been turned down at this moment, so it is not like we are sat on our backsides doing nothing.

“The chairman has shown a lot of endeavour, allowing us to put the bids in, but, at this moment, they have been turned down, so we will just have to sit down and see how much further we can go on the deals are if we need to do it.”

Moore made his first signing of the window this week, completing the transfer of Nathan Thomas from Mansfield, and the manager said the winger can be ”unplayable” on his day.

Moore said: “We know all about him.

“We know what he has got. He is one of those players that can excite a lot of people.

“He is a left-footed winger with lots of pace and is one of those players who we talk about often, people who are going to light that blue touch paper for us.

“He is one who can do that and, on his day, is unplayable.”
