According to a report in the national press, Woods is at the top of City's shortlist when the window reopens as they eye a promotion push having won promotion to the National League.

Although, they face stern competition from a number of Football League clubs, many of whom tried to snap the midfielder up in the January window.

While many would see a move to Salford as a step backwards, they are understood to be offering big money could offer a wage rise compared to what he is on Victoria Park.

Exeter City, who tried to nab Woods in the winter window, are expected to come back in for Woods, having been told he was unavailable for transfer earlier this year, despite the club's dire financial plight.

Woods' Pools deal runs out this summer and it is unlikely to be renewed.

Should he leave that will end a four-year association with the club, where he made more than 144 appearances, scoring 17 goals.

Woods finished this season as Pools' top-scorer with 11 goals.
