A181 Castle Eden-Durham road reopened in both directions after two-vehicle collision

The A181 Castle Eden-Durham road closed off by police in both directions following a two-vehicle collision has reopened to traffic.

Durham Constabulary shut a section of the A181 between the Jet garage and the Pit Pony roundabout, at Wheatley Hill, in both directions after the incident early yesterday evening, Saturday, February 13.

The force asked drivers to avoid the area and to find an alternative route.

It later confirmed the route had reopened, but has released no further details on the incident.

In a tweet at around 5.30pm it said: “The A181 between the Jet garage and the pit pony roundabout at Wheatley Hill has been closed in both directions following a two-vehicle collision.

“Officers are on scene. Please avoid the area and find an alternative route.”
