Crash between lorry and car on A19 causes delays as icy weather hits region

Motorists were left queuing after the incident, which happened on the southbound side of the route between the B1404 at Seaton Lane and the A182 Murton Interchange, near Dalton Park, this morning, Tuesday, December 29.
The crash caused long delays for motorists, with ongoing weather conditions causing concern on the roads in the area.

Hide AdA spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: “Officers were called to reports of a two-vehicle collision on the A19 southbound near Seaham at around 7.15am today.


“The incident involved an Audi car and a HGV. No one is believed to have been injured.
“The road was blocked for about an hour whilst the vehicles were recovered.”
The AA reported both lanes were closed while the scene was cleared, with the clear up operation taking around an hour, with snowfall impacting on drivers in the area.

Hide AdGo North East also warned passengers of its X10 service the 8.15am Middlesbrough to Dalton Park bus would not run after a coach was delayed due to the incident.
The Met Office forecast for the East Durham area said the day was expected to begin with wintry showers with frost and freezing fog, with showers during the morning.
While the day will get drier and brighter, tonight will be cold once again, with temperatures of zero to -2C, with further frost and freezing fog and scattered showers in the early hours.
Silent Bank, on the A181 Old Cassop, has also been closed this morning due to the weather conditions.
