Drivers warned of sixth and final A19 Tees flyover weekend closure and the diversions in place

Motorists are being advised to plan their journeys ahead of a weekend closure of the A19 flyover.

The southbound A19 Tees Viaduct will be closed for essential maintenance work from 9pm on Friday, May 29, until 6am on Monday, June 1.

It will be the sixth and final weekend closure so Highways England can do vital repairs, weather permitting.

The agency says the crossing is 45 years old this year the joints on the viaduct need to be replaced.

It says the work can only be carried out safely if one of the A19 carriageways is closed.

Highways England said: “By shutting the road fully in one direction, Highways England’s team of engineers can work around the clock to complete the job as quickly as possible.”

A diversion will be in place where drivers come off the A19 at A1046 (Haverton Hill/Portrack), go south on A1032 (Newport Bridge) to A66/A1032 (Cannon Park), A66 Westbound to A66/A19 interchange.
