Tribute night for tragic Liam raises £2,000 for Hartlepool hospice

An annual fundraising event in memory of a much-loved town man has seen its most successful total to date as their total tops £16,000.

The Liam Gough Tribute Night, which has been held every year since 2008 and is in aid of Hartlepool and District Hospice, raised £2,190 at its most recent sell-out event in November 2015.

This brings the total amount raised from these memorial events to a staggering £16,700.

John Gough, who has organised all of the events with the support of his partner Ann Bates along with family and friends, was thrilled with the result and was eager to thank all who made it possible.

John said: “Another full house eight years on and it keeps getting better; the people of Hartlepool have really taken to this event, they always tell me how much they have enjoyed the night and look forward to next year.

“I would like to thank Mick Sumpter of MKM, Ian Hewitson of Connoisseur Crafts Ltd, Doctor S K Ray, Joe Kirkwood of Travis Perkins, Jeff Smith of City Plumbing Supplies and everyone else who donated prizes; Angie, Leanne, Gemma, Chris and Kai for helping with ticket sales; Billy West and The Seatones for their performances.

“Thanks also to Don, Derek and Maxine who worked hard to take care of guests on the night, Greg Hildreth of the hospice for his support and all of the family and friends of Liam.”

Greg from the hospice added: “The hospice provides a unique range of services to patients and their families from the local communities of Hartlepool and East Durham.

“It is our vision that every person, to the last moment of their life, has the right to dignity, respect, support and care.

“We work to provide services that add value to life and make a difference to patients and their families. The money raised from these events and others from supporters in our local communities are vital to the hospice.

“John is such a great guy and it has been an absolute pleasure for me to work with him over the years; I speak for everyone at the Hospice when I say how grateful we are for his kindness and dedication to this project. It is also a wonderful tribute to his brother and a fantastic thing to do for the people of his town.”

John will be announcing the date of this year’s event in due course.
