A woman's body has been found in a Hartlepool home after a fire.

Police are treating the death as suspicious after they were called to reports of a house fire in Westbourne Road at around 8.25am today.

The body of an elderly woman was found inside the address. A post mortem examination will be held later today.

Police have cordoned off Westbourne Road, in Hartlepool.

The road was cordoned off by police as crews from Hartlepool Stranton fire station tackled the blaze.

Police had blocked access to the road and the ambulance service was also in attendance.

Forensic investigators were on scene.
