We were not good enough says Craig Harrison after Hartlepool United lose 2-0 to Aldershot

Insipid Pools never got out of first gear and never tested the Aldershot keeper who had a comfortable afternoon as he watched the Shots score late on in each half.

Bernard Mensah's clever header gave the promotion-chasers the lead in the 44th minute in a first half of few opportunities and even less entertainment.

The second half was slightly kinder on the eye, but bar an off-target Nicky Deverdics header from a Jonathan Franks cross, the away goal was not threatened.

Town made certain of the points four minutes from time when James Kellerman smacked home a shot from the edge of the area after being put clean through.

“We weren’t good enough," said the manager. "We didn’t start well and you can go around the houses, but we just weren’t good enough. Everybody.

“We have had pats on the back recently, but we all know as a group today it wasn’t good enough.

“We work all week on our game, going forward, attacking, defencing and we do it on a regular basis and it’s frustrating.

"I understand the frustrations of the fans, believe you me it’s the same from me, the staff and players.

“We haven’t done anything good enough today.

“We knew how Aldershot would play, but we just for want of not repeating myself we didn’t go anything well today from back to front."

The reverse saw Pools slip to 14th, four points outside the top seven going into Tuesday's home date with Halifax Town.

A win today would have put them eighth in the table.

“We will be in training tomorrow and talk through it and go again on Tuesday," added Harrison.
