Weapon fired after vehicle ploughs through house's front gates

A weapon was fired after a vehicle ploughed through the front gates of a house before being set alight.

The vehicle also smashed into a second parked on the driveway before the unknown driver and other suspects fled.

Other vehicles near the scene in Coronation Road, Wingate, were also damaged.

Durham Police say a loud bang, which was believed to be a firearm being discharged, was also heard.

Two men have since been arrested and are currently in police custody. Inquiries are ongoing to trace other suspects.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Gray, from Durham Constabulary, said: “We would like to reassure residents that we believe this was a targeted incident and that there is no threat to the wider community.

“We also believe nobody was injured in the incident.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident at around 6.20pm on Tuesday or has any information is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number 344 of November 21.
