Hartlepool's JD Sports Dome deflates during bad weather

Local residents noticed that one of the JD Sports Domes on Tees Road was sagging on Sunday morning (June 28).

The dome – which is made of a durable polyvinyl material and are filled with hot air – is now completely deflated, with reports that high winds have ripped the fabric in several places.

A number of workers have been seen on site.

A resident near the scene said: “Deflation resulted in the wind whipping the fabric from side to side and the slack material has been ripped badly in several places – one rip is around four meters long.”

The £7million development opened in 2013, believed to be the first of its kind in the UK.

The domes have deflated before due to a faulty generator, with the venue closed for several days in February 2019.
