Three days of heavy rain forecast as weather warning issued for North East
The weather warning runs from 6pm tonight, Tuesday, February 2 until 12pm on Thursday, February 4 and covers the whole region and also North Yorkshire.
A Met Office warning statement said: “Following earlier heavy snowfall, a period of heavy rain late Tuesday and overnight into early Wednesday will lead to a relatively rapid thaw.

Hide Ad"The combination of rain and melting snow may lead to some flooding.
"Further persistent, sometimes heavy rain is likely later Wednesday and into Thursday particularly in northeast England and North Yorkshire.”
The alert warns of spray and flooding on roads which is likely to make journey times longer, as well as delays to bus and train services.
Forecasters says there is a possibility of flooding in some homes and businesses.

Hide AdFollowing a snow and ice warning over the weekend, the heavy rainfall is expected to come with some snow melt at first.
The North East will see further outbreaks of rain overnight with cold and windy conditions and a minimum temperature of 1C.
Strong winds are expected on Wednesday with, generally cold conditions and a maximum temperature of 4C.
More rain is expected on Thursday, before Friday and Saturday see further spells of rain and a wintry turn later as colder east winds develop.
