Will you support a week for Dementia Awareness?

A series of activities is being staged in Hartlepool for Dementia Awareness Week to support sufferers and their friends and families.

The awareness week runs from Saturday, May 14, until Friday, May 20, and the events will kick off with a community walk starting from Tees and Hartlepool Yacht Club.

The Move a Memory Mile Community Walk will take place on May 14 at 10.30am, when walkers will head towards Seaton Carew via the promenade, and will be given the choice to walk 1.5 miles, 3 miles and 4.5 miles.

Registration for the walk is at 9.30am, and after completing it, walkers will return to the yacht club where they will take part in a “Push the Boat Out” event, which includes sailing taster sessions accessible to all.

On Monday, May 16, there will be a functional fitness session at Brierton Sports Centre between 1pm-3pm.

This will include information and support on vascular dementia, and people will have the chance to take part in a movement MOT and take part in activities designed to keep their bodies moving well for longer.

The next of the activities is a Nordic walking taster session, plus information and support on frontal temporal dementia.
