Woman taken to hospital with burns after neighbours kick down door of Hartlepool house in kitchen fire rescue

Firefighters from Cleveland Fire Brigade arrived on the scene of the blaze in Sheriff Street in Hartlepool just after 9pm today, Wednesday, July 8, to see the lady being helped through the door of the terrace home.

A firefighter used their breathing apparatus kit to give her oxygen until medics from the North East Ambulance Service arrived, with paramedics giving her first aid for burns she had sustained in the fire.

She was then taken to hospital for further treatment.

Two officers wearing breathing apparatus were sent into the house and used a hose reel to put out the fire, with part of the street cordoned off to people and traffic.

The cause of the incident is under investigation, but is not thought to be suspicious.

The brigade sent two appliances and an officer to the scene, with the incident brought to a close by 9.55pm.

The ambulance service also sent an incident response unit and a car to the fire.

Cleveland Fire Brigade has urged people to ensure they have working smoke alarms in their homes.
