Organisers from Cancer Research UK are urging women to take part in this year’s race at the Hartlepool Promenade on Sunday, July 3.

And to help swell the ranks or runners and walkers, an event will be held this Saturday in Villiers Street in Hartlepool from 9am.

A team of volunteers and events managers will be setting up a Race for Life Battle HQ where shoppers can get made up to fight cancer with hot pink lipstick and an elaborate warrior headdress, which is decorated with feathers, studs and hot pink laces.

There will also be Battle HQ ‘selfie station’.

Organisers hope the Battle HQ will motivate local women to sign up to Race for Life.

Claire Wase, Race for Life event manager in Hartlepool, said: “We’re so excited to bring our Battle HQ event to Hartlepool.

“It’s a chance for women in the town to experience the fun and excitement of Race for Life and to find out about our Hartlepool events in July.

“We want this year’s Race for Life to be our biggest and best yet, so we’re calling on women of all ages, shapes and sizes to sign up and join the charge.

“It’s time to form a pink platoon of feisty, go-getting girls and show cancer who’s boss.”

Last year, 1,230 women in the Hartlepool pulled on their trainers and helped raise more than £65,000 for life-saving research.

Cancer survival rates have doubled since the 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress.
