In honour of the upcoming nuptials of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on Saturday 19 May, Morrisons have created their own version of the Royal Wedding cake, for a bargain price.

The supermarket chain's signature version costs just £7 and has been made so that royal family fans can enjoy a taste of the celebration in the comfort of their own home.

The royal couple's cake is expected to cost thousands as it is being crafted by acclaimed London pastry chef Claire Ptak, who is using three key ingredients of lemon, elderflower and flowers for the creation.

Morrisons' own version consists of three ten-inch layers of classic sponge, lemon curd and whipped British cream, flavoured with elderflower, allowing shoppers a chance to sample the tasty flavour combination for themselves.

The sides of the cake will be decorated with white chocolate curls and it will be topped with a generous sprinkling of pink rose petals for an elegant finish.

Speaking of the Royal Wedding inspired cake, Dale Lindley, Head Cake Designer at Morrisons, said: "Customers who weren't lucky enough to get an invite but want to take part in the celebrations will still be able to enjoy a cake fit for a prince and princess."

The Morrisons version of the Royal Wedding cake is being made fresh in store and is hand finished by its 1,000 skilled cake makers, using the same three core ingredients that will go into the royal couple's creation.

The cake will be available to buy in all Morrisons stores with Cake Shop counters from Friday 11 to Sunday 20 May.
