Rumours of the possible reunion first appeared online when Jennifer Anniston (Rachel) posted a photo of the cast together online.

The news was confirmed in February, when all six cast members shared the same post on social media, along with the caption, “It’s happening.”

However, those wishing for a new scripted episode of the iconic sitcom may be left disappointed. Reports have revealed that it will be an unscripted reunion special.

It will be the first time that all six cast members will be together in the same room and given space to talk about the show since filming ended.

Courtney Cox, who played Monica on the programme, said on the Kevin Nealon web series Hiking with Kevin, “It's going to be great. We really haven't all done that and actually sat there and talked about and reminisced about this incredible experience that we had."

Filming of the Friends special will take place on the show's original soundstage, Stage 24, on the Warner Bros lot in Burbank, California.

The resulting show will air on the streaming platform, HBO Max, with a release date yet to be revealed.
