Contessa Curtains celebrates 50 years of home interior excellence in Hartlepool, and backs local hospice

Contessa Curtains Limited, located at 243-245 York Road, Hartlepool is proudly marking 50 years in business. Established in 1975 by Geoffrey and Dianne Bassett, the curtains and interiors company has remained a staple of the local high street, known for bespoke craftsmanship and an unmatched personal touch.

A legacy of craftsmanship
What began as a small retail venture has grown into one of the North East's most respected suppliers of made-to-measure curtains, blinds, and interior styling. The in-house workroom allows for full creative control and ensures the quality and precision that the brand has become known for over the years.
Showroom experience
Visitors to the showroom are welcomed by expansive displays of luxury fabrics and wallpapers, expertly styled to inspire. With thousands of samples to choose from, some in generous full-length displays, to help customers visualise their dream interiors. The modern showroom experience is an immersive one - tactile, visual, and full of possibilities.
Expansion and growth
While Hartlepool remains the company's home, Contessa Curtains also has a store in Groombridge, Kent, serving clients in the South-East by appointment only. This thoughtful growth has allowed the company to maintain its core values while reaching new audiences.
"I am so proud of the team, past and present, for continuing the legacy that Geoffrey and Dianne began," said David Burmiston, Company Director.

Looking ahead
As Contessa Curtains celebrates its 50th anniversary, the focus is both on honouring its heritage and embracing the future. With a loyal client base, and a reputation for excellence, the business continues to thrive.
As a way to give back to the local community, who have supported the company through the years, Contessa Curtains have recently donated curtains to Alice House Hospice, to show appreciation for their unmatched care and compassion, helping to create a warm and comforting environment for the patients and families they serve.
