Boxer Jordan Ellison suffers first defeat for new team after losing to Scotland's Charlie Flynn

The 20-year-old lost out to unbeaten Commonweath Games gold medal hero Charlie Flynn in Glasgow.

Flynn, who has won all seven bouts in the pro ranks, got the verdict 60-55 from referee Kenny Pringle at the City Hotel.

But Gus Robinson Developments head coach, Peter Cope, said he gave it his all.

The Seaham boxer had overturned the odds in his previous two outings at Preston and Aston Villa by beating home prospects but he could not complete a hat-trick

“Jordan lost but competed in every round.” said Cope. “His manager, Mick Marsden, was in his corner because I was doing the show at Dunston.

“Mick said the scoreline did not really reflect the contribution Jordan made.

“Flynn was that little bit quicker, as you would expect from a Commonwealth Games gold medallist.

“But Jordan boxed well, got a share of a round, and put in another good display.”

The Ellison defeat was the only blemish on a good weekend for the West View Road camp.

Ellison’s Stranton House comrades, Daniel Cope and Billy Snaith, both won against Lithuanian opposition at the Lancastrian Suite on the same evening.

Cope beat Arvydas Trzno 39-37 while Snaith had a 40-36 shut-out against Andrej Cepur.

“I’m absolutely over the moon with Billy,” said Cope. “Billy has only had four amateur bouts and that was only his second pro fight.

“To throw the variety of shots and from the angles, he was fantastic. He’s a fitness fanatic, trains like mad, two wins out of two

“Billy showed great improvement.”
