Elite have eight of their own boxers in the ring at the eagerly-anticipated event at the Corporation Club in Whitby Steet.

But the invitation to three teenagers from Gus Robinson Developments ABC outfit, Adam and Luke Cope and Darren Coombs, has added even more quality to the bill which stands at 14 bouts.

National Clubs for Young People’s champion Adam Cope will box over the senior distance for only the second time when he meets Golden Gloves ABC boxer Marcel Braithwaite.

The 18-year-old began the season in style by stopping Lancashire’s Prince Brady in the second round of their battle in Burnley.

Coombs was outpointed on the same show but Gus Robinson coaches Tony Martin, Wayne Short and Lee Cope have all been impressed by the 14-year-old, who meets Owen Reece, from Birtley, this afternoon.

They have the same high hopes for Luke Cope, who is matched with Mohammed Hussain, from Sheffield City.

“It is good to have the Gus lads on,” said Elite Academy coach Paul Barnes. “They are always worth watching.”

Doors open at the Corporation Club at 12.15pm with boxing scheduled to start at 1pm.
