Hartlepool boxer Savannah Marshall and Nicola Adams win in Boxam 2015 in Spain

HARTLEPOOL boxer Savannah Marshall made a successful comeback to the ring today with victory in Boxam 2015 in Spain.

The 24-year-old, fighting for the first time since losing her hold on the world title, reached the semi-finals at the international tournament at Cartagena, near Alicante.

Marshall, who has recovered from hand surgery, defeated Italy’s Francesca Amato on points in the last eight.

The Headland ABC star will now face a battle of Britain in the U75 kilo semi-finals tomorrow against Wales fighter Lauren Price, who ended the dreams of home hope Tamara Garcia Zaragoza.

There was also a successful comeback for London 2012 hero Nicola Adams who went through at U51 kilo.

The Leeds boxer, who pulled out of last month’s ABA Championships in Liverpool after her home was burgled, eased through against Valeria Saldano, from host country Spain.

Sandy Ryan made it a great day for the England team when she beat Valentina Alberti, from Italy, on points.

In the same division, Rosie Eccles, from Wales, progressed aafter beating Scotland’s Elaine Greenan, again on points.

There was another Scottish defeat at U60 kilo, where Spain’s Jennifer Mirander Maqueda stopped Lynn Calder in the fourth round.
