Liam Cammock has signed for the Hartlepool team, joining fellow Colliery fighters Anth Hardy and Greg O’Neil.

Gus Robinson Developments head coach Peter Cope joked: “We’re on about moving our headquarters from West View Road up to Horden – they have taken over the gym!

“Seriously, it’s great to have Liam on the team here.

“He’s been here with us for around a year learning about the pro game and he’s only just been granted his licence by the British Boxing Board of Control.

“Liam is an absolute joy to train, his attitude is spot on and appetite and willingness to learn is second to none.

“Now I’m looking forward to seeing him box.”

And Cope should not have long to wait – the 20-year-old, who will operate at welterweight, is in line to make his debut on the Collossal show, promoted by Phil Jeffries, at Houghton on Sunday, March 8.

“He’s had his medical and if everything comes back OK then he’ll box at the Rainton Meadows Arena,” Cope told SportMail. “He’s only 20 and while it’s too early to say what he’ll do, I believe he has a bright future.

“Liam had a reasonable junior record but hasn’t boxed for a few years so there is absolutely no rush with him.

“We’ll take our time with Liam, build his experience and build his record.

“I think fans will like him, he’s an attacking fighter, a real give-it-a-go type.”

Cammock, son of Horden Sportsman ABC coach Tony, joins a “thriving young gym” at Stranton House.

Peter Cope Jnr, 23, has 10 victories from 12 bouts and fellow 23-year-old O’Neil has three wins from five, while Hardy, 22, boasts six straight points successes and Daniel Cope, 24, is unbeaten after two contests.

“I think Liam will prove a good addition,” said coach Cope. “We have a thriving young gym and all our boxers are going well with something to aim for.”
