Peter Cope, Tommy Ward and Thomas Essomba in in Summer Rumble tile fights at Stadium of Light

Promoter Phil Jeffries promised another “Summer Rumble to remember” when he launched his fifth anniversary Stadium of Light spectacular at a media conference.

Jeffries and the fighters were at Sunderland’s ground today ahead of the outdoor show on Sunday, July 5.

Hartlepool’s Peter Cope tops the bill with the defence of his Northern Area lightweight title in a re-match with John Green, from Middlesbrough.

Another Hartlepool-trained prospect,Tommy Ward, will box Vladimer Janezashvili, from Georgia, for the new British Promoters Association Classic Challenge super-bantamweight belt. over eight rounds, an initiative endorsed by the British Boxing Board of Control.

Thomas Essomba also has a BPA Classic Challenge belt contest, at flyweight, against Hungary’s Robert Kanalas, this time over 10 rounds.

Tommy Ward’s elder brother, Martin, is also on the bill while Wearside features heavily in the shape of Jonson McClumpha, Lyndon Watt, Trevor Crew and Jordan Ellison.

Newcastle cross the river with Lewis Ritson and Basi Razak in action while there are pro debuts for fellow Tynesiders Kevin Elliott and Mike Dixon.

“Most of the big names from the North East are on this show,” said promoter Jeffries. “It will be a Summer Rumble to remember.

“And currently there are 15 fights scheduled because we’re looking to give fans value for money.

“We’ve also deliberately trying to match all the lads in 50-50 bouts because we know that’s what the fans want to see and deserve.

“This will definitely be one, if not, the best and biggest show in the North East ever and I’m really looking forward to seeing all the familiar media faces at the press conference.”
