Since then, we’ve seen the National League season shut down due to a global pandemic and matches played primarily behind closed doors in what has been a chaotic 12 month spell.
But Challinor’s year at Pools, while unpredictable and uncertain, has largely been positive at the side made a late play-off charge last season prior to lockdown and have started the 2020-21 campaign brightly despite the odd hiccup.
Here we look back at some key quotes from Challinor’s tenure so far – scroll down and click through the pages to reveal them...

9. National League Shut Down in March
"There are bigger issues further down the line but it’s been a strange 48-hours. I’m sure the coming weeks and months will be very strange as well in terms of how things pan out. Everyone is in the dark in terms of what happens next – we’ll just have to wait and see.” Photo: Frank Reid

10. 2020-21 Budget Cuts
"Our budget is going to be significantly reduced on what it was last year. We’ve had to make decisions around the offers we make people and I realise that the lads need to make decisions themselves. What I’ve said to them is, the club is in a position to make offers but they’re not really negotiable because we need to know where we stand." Photo: Frank Reid

11. Youth set-up changes
"There will be changes with the youth set-up. There’s been lots of money invested because it’s remained a paid programme where the scholars are paid. That will change as we look at a different format but it still doesn’t hide away from the fact we’re looking to produce players and get them into the first team from that.” Photo: HUFC

12. Coronavirus Postponements
Challinor following postponed National League match at Barnet: "Unfortunately, you’ll get circumstances where there’s going to be self-interest involved. If you want a game called off, you’ll get the game called off, simple as that." Photo: Christopher Booth
