Over a third of the 932 attendance was made up of Poolies as goals from Kabongo Tshimanga and Gime Toure at the start of either half saw the game finish 1-1.

Goalkeeper Ben Killip kept the score level with a second-half penalty save to deny Sorba Thomas and ensure Pools kept their hunt for a play-off spot intact.

After the game, the United players went over to thank the travelling fans for their support as Killip commented: “You’d like to say you’re surprised but you’re not because we know we’ve got one of the best followings in the National League.

“It’s impossible not to be motivated by that and perform for them. It’s a quick turnaround now so we go back into training on Monday and prepare ourselves for another big game at Solihull.”
