Confidence growing with former Middlesbrough midfielder Luke Williams over potential new deal at Hartlepool United

Hartlepool United manager Dave Challinor says Luke Williams is looking ‘better and better’ as the midfielder closes in on a new deal.

The 27-year-old remains out of contract but has continued to train with Pools throughout the summer and into the new season.

And Challinor hopes to see Williams as a ‘Hartlepool United player’ in the coming months after being encouraged by his progress on the training field.

But the midfielder needs game time elsewhere before being considered for first team action.

“I’ve had a chat with the chairman [Raj Singh] and we’ll pick it up after the weekend,” Challinor told The Mail.

“Every day in training, he looks better and better in terms of his body language and the confidence he’s got in himself and in his body to go and train full-tilt.

"We’ll see where we’re at with him this week and hopefully we’ll have some news on a couple of other things as well.”
