The 25-year-old striker moved to Victoria Park from Chester on a short-term deal in April – scoring his first and only goal in the 4-2 defeat against Maidenhead United.

However, Elliott will be fondly remembered in Pools’ history after dispatching his spot-kick in the National League promotion final penalty shootout win over Torquay United.

Ahead of Pools releasing their retained list, expected to be this weekend, Elliott posted on his official Twitter account: “It’s been an absolute pleasure @Official_HUFC.

"Made friends and memories for life. Thanks to my teammates, the staff, and the incredible fans! I wish you all the best next season.”

Pools fan and Sky Sports present Jeff Stelling responded: “Danny you are such a lovely guy. I will never forget THAT penalty.

"Will follow your career with interest mate. All the very very best.”
