Denise McGuckin, the managing director of the council, added: "I’d like to say a massive congratulations to everyone at Pools. They have really done the town proud and the town is rightly proud of them.

“The coronavirus pandemic means it hasn’t been an easy year for so many people and Friday’s parade is a welcome opportunity to celebrate some really good news for our town.

“But we do need people to be sensible. We know covid-19 is spread through social contact and it is therefore vitally important people only watch the parade with people from their own bubble and remember to keep a safe distance from others at all times.”
