After three months out injured, the return of the 34-year-old is a welcome boost but he may have to be patient with promotion-chasing Pools in good form.

He’ll also have to wait a little while longer given today’s National League fixture at Dover has been postponed.

But Challinor is looking forward to having him back available when Pools do finally get back playing.

Challinor said: “I hope he doesn't get back in the team!

"Lidds is a great lad and he'll be thinking the same but he wants to play, he’s been out for a long time he's worked really hard with his recovery.

"He’s training really well but he recognises where he’s at and where the teams at.

"With the amount of games we have this month, he’s bound to have an opportunity and he’s obviously massively important for us in terms of his experience.

"But long may it continue where the back three are doing their jobs well and keeping him out of the team.

"He knows that the likelihood is that an opportunity will come and we can get him back into the fold which will be a big boost for everyone.”

It’s Pools’ second match to be postponed this week after their Tuesday night fixture at Halifax Town was called off due to heavy snow in West Yorkshire.

Dave Challinor’s side were two hours into a 330-mile journey down to Dover on Friday morning before they got the news that Saturday’s match was cancelled.
