Pools confirmed new deals for defenders Jamie Sterry and Ryan Johnson just hours before the National League made a u-turn on their option of providing grants to clubs.

Versatile midfielder Alex Purver is understood to have been on trial at the club this month with a view of a short-term deal.

"The situation with the league impacts us a bit,” Challinor admitted. “Tyler has gone back to Blackburn and we were looking to bring someone else in which would have potentially happened by now but hasn’t.

“We’re going to obviously be a little bit careful and more patient with what you have to do because that’s the nature of it.

"We were pretty positive about continuing [last week], now it’s out of our hands so we have to be patient but it shouldn’t wholly impact what we’re able to do.

"We’re not in a situation where we’re absolutely desperate to bring more people in because we’ve got a strong squad that’s in a really good place.

"We recognise that at the back end of the season, we’ve still got potentially 26 games left to play which is a big ask but a big opportunity for us and we need to make sure we’re covered in the right positions.”
