Dave Challinor rues missed Hartlepool United chances in 1-0 defeat at home to Wrexham

Hartlepool United suffered back to back National League defeats for the first time under Dave Challinor as they lost 1-0 at home to Wrexham.

Elliot Durrell’s 55th minute strike was enough to separate the sides at Victoria Park as Pools saw several chances go begging.

Following the match, Pools boss Dave Challinor said: “I’m disappointed with the result but pleased with aspects of our performance.

"We can’t keep playing okay and not getting results. We played really well in the first half but goals change football matches and they put their chance away and we didn’t.

"We had a long chat after the game where the players spoke about things, there wasn’t enough of it in my opinion but we have to do something about it.

Wrexham managed the game well after taking the lead but the officials allowed them to do that by doing nothing about it which was really frustrating.

“We’ve got to be better in the final third and have a bit of luck to put our chances away. I want to see more desire from players to put their bodies on the line to get a goal.

“I’m not going to hide from the fact that we need to be scoring goals when we're playing well. If we were rubbish and not creating chances I’d be really concerned.

"But we’re playing some good stuff and causing problems but we’re not taking them which is obviously still a concern as that’s what changes football matches. There is a pressure on the lads at the top end of the pitch to start taking their chances.”
