After keeping a clean sheet on his debut at Ilkeston Town last month, Ravas started in between the sticks for the first round tie at Salford City over the weekend.

The Derby County loanee made a string of impressive saves during the game as Pools forced extra-time before eventually losing 2-0. Ravas was subsequently named as BBC Radio Tees Sport’s man of the match for his efforts at the Peninsula Stadium.

“Henrich has had to be patient and wait for his chance,” Challinor said. “With him coming in so late, he’s been limited to FA Cup games.

“He will be disappointed with the manner of the goals conceded [against Salford] but he made some comfortable saves at times but then a couple of really good saves as well.

“He’s claimed the ball well and controlled his six-yard box, which is great.”

The 23-year-old goalkeeper arrived on the eve of the new National League season, giving him a difficult task to take the number one spot off England C international Ben Killip, who has also been in solid form so far this season.

Challinor added: "We've got two goalkeepers here at the moment who are putting each other under pressure and will hopefully continue to bring the best out of each other.”
