Ex-Gateshead defender confirms interest in joining Hartlepool United

Former Gateshead defender Scott Barrow has revealed he would be interested in joining Hartlepool United – but could be set to complete a move to another club.

The Welsh wing-back became a firm favourite during a three-year stay at the International Stadium as he made over 100 appearances for the Tynesiders.

But his time at the club was brought to a close when negotiations to extend his time at the club failed to reach a compromise and his release was confirmed in June.

A number of clubs have expressed in securing his services for the new season and Pools manager Dave Challinor discussed Barrow’s situation with The Mail earlier this week.

Pools have, however, since signed ex-York City left-back David Ferguson so any interest in Barrow is likely over.

Speaking exclusively to The Mail, Barrow confirmed that he has received a “firm offer” from a club within the last 24 hours, not Hartlepool United, and could undergo a medical on Thursday if he chooses to accept their deal.

He said: “I have had some offers, including one yesterday and I am thinking about that.

“If I accept that I have to travel up for a medical tomorrow.

“I have had interest, but you only really know that the interest is genuine if they put an actual offer on the table.

“I want to stay in the North East, it’s a fantastic place, my girlfriend is there, and I want to be around there.

“I will discuss the situation with my Dad and make a decision then travel.

“There are only two clubs in and around the North East that I would sign for at the moment.

“One is Hartlepool United and then there is another around there.

“The other club has made an offer, I have to think about it, but it’s a lot to take in.”

Barrow revealed he is keen to continue his playing career in the upper echelons of the non-league game as he looks to add a trophy to the list of individual awards he has claimed during his career.

The 31-year-old also admitted he is taking extra care in deciding his next step as it could be the final move of his career.
