It’s been 14 years since Hartlepool were last top of the table in April, when they led the League Two table at the back end of the 2006-07 season.
Now, following a 2-0 win over Notts County at Victoria Park, Pools have gone top of the National League table with seven games remaining.
Most teams below them have several games in hand but that didn’t stop players and fans taking to social media to celebrate Saturday’s big win.
Here’s what they had to say…
Goal machine Gavan Holohan tweeted following his fourth goal in as many games: “Another massive win, to a man different class from everyone. Top of the pile, we’ll keep plugging away.”
Mark Shelton posted: “Top of the league, 14 unbeaten. Loved every minute out there today, some team, BIG, BIG win.”
Club president Jeff Stelling thanked Dave Challinor and his wife Kate with a heartfelt message: “You are all loved in Hartlepool Kate. Can’t be easy when Dave away from home so much so thanks to all of you from all of us.”
Pools fan John Turner tweeted: “That 1st half was the best I've seen us in years! The whole game the team was fantastic.”
Peter Morley: “Another strong performance and 3pts in the bag. Great work rate and pressure from Pools today.”
@JMRphin: “WE'RE ON THE CHARGE! FOOTBALL LEAGUE HERE WE COME!! Rhythm is a dancer, Challinor's the answer."
@stublackett: “Absolutely buzzing! Best we've played this season too. We dare to dream.”
@DanSherry16: “Something to shout about in Hartlepool for the first time in a long time.”
@JamieHall97_: “Say it every week but imagine the fans in that ground now? The place would be rocking, be some ships getting sank down the marina/town after that performance! Love this club, THE TOWNS CLUB!”
@kate_hufc: “After years and years of disappointment and heartbreak, this is just absolutely unbelievable. Dave’s got this team believing they can do it and believing they are good enough to do it. Every single one of those players today were spot on. UTP, my team.”
