'Happy Saturday night!' – Hartlepool United players and fans react to 2-1 opening day victory against Aldershot Town

Hartlepool United started the 2020-21 National League season with a solid 2-1 win over Aldershot Town at Victoria Park.

Goals from Nicky Featherstone and Gavan Holohan were enough to see Dave Challinor’s side snatch an opening day victory.

Fans were unable to attend the match at The Vic but many followed the match online and via the club’s pay-per-view live streaming service.

Midfielder Mark Shelton posted: “Always nice to get a win on the first game of the season, c’mon the boys.”

Debutant Claudio Ofosu said: “Grateful and humbled to have made my full league debut and most importantly the 3 points.”

Newcastle United loanee Lewis Cass tweeted: “Great start to the season. 3pts and a good team performance."

Pools supporter @HallyDesigns commented: “Buzzing, lots of potential in this squad be great to see how we do once we get a few games under our belt.”

@PaulKeay gave his assessment: “Made hard work of that second half but feels great to win the first game of the season for the first time in about 5 years! Sure we will get better as the weeks go on, happy Saturday night!”

@MbwLdurham said: “Good result and just the start we wanted, could have been a lot worse for Aldershot if we took our chances. Anyway great result, happy weekend.”

Stuart Blackett summed it up nicely: “Doesn't matter how we win. As long as we do. Can see we will get a lot better too. So it's all good tonight. Just wish we were there to cheer them on.”
