The January signing has four appearances and one goal to his name since swapping Tynecastle for Hartlepool United and Challinor insists he has the right characteristics to make a big impact between now and the end of the campaign, with Pools chasing a play-off place.

On Keena, Challinor said: “He’s settling in fine, he’s one that we know we need to work with in terms of getting across what we want for him, but one thing we know for certain is that he wants to learn.

“He wants to work hard, he wants to score goals and having the desire to do that puts him in a good place so the bits and bobs that we’ll work with what we want him to do in terms of out of possession, where we want him to try and stretch the game for us whether we want to play him up front in a two or whether it’s as a lone one.

“Just different roles and responsibilities that’s different to where he’s come from so he’s coming to a level where he’s not tried and not tested.”

The striker came recommended by former Pools striker-turned Hearts coach Jon Daly.

Keena said: “I had heard about them before and one of my old coaches Jon Daly has been here before so I’m pretty sure he put in a good word for me.

“I’ve moved countries before from Ireland to Scotland and spent two years up there and now I’m down here, I don’t mind and it’s not too much of a task for me.

“I’ve been over on trial at English clubs before where I felt I did well, so it’s good to come down again and try my hand here.

“I enjoyed St. Pats but I was still at school at the time, I trained with the first team whenever I could and played a few games for them and then I was lucky enough to get the move to Hearts.”
