Pools created numerous opportunities but failed to really test the goalkeeper throughout a wet and windy night in North Wales.

Arguably the most frustrating part of the evening came after 77-minutes as Rhys Oates was fouled right on the edge of the penalty area by Wrexham’s Luke Young.

The general view was that Oates was fouled inside the penalty area with even referee Jacob Miles admitting that it was on the line despite awarding the free-kick.

It was a decision that potentially cost Pools two points at the Racecourse Ground following an impressive, albeit frustrating display.

Afterwards, fans voiced their feelings on Twitter...

@danpatton__: “Absolutely criminal we haven’t won that.”

@_wrighty4: “Fantastic display – it’s a joy to watch every week. Totally dominated, should of had a pen and on another day Armstrong tucks that away. Still in the mix.”

@hallydesigns: “Excellent performance and deserved the 3 points, how that wasn't a penalty?”

@themightyjor: “Would have taken a point before the game, but a shame after playing so well!”

@JamesDaley11: “One of the best performances I’ve seen in years that. Referee has had an absolute stinker with that pen. We go again Saturday boys.”

@Danthom03: “Completely dominant. How we did not win is a mystery. Even if we lost that game, every one of them should be proud. One look at the Wrexham Twitter feed shows who the best team was. If we play like that until May, with a bit better finishing, we won’t even need the play offs.”

@JamieHall97_: “Played quality, would have taken a point before the game but after watching that can’t believe we didn’t take all 3! They didn’t want to know all game, playing for a point at home, we have to take all 3 Saturday though.”

Even the Wrexham fans knew they’d got away with one.

@DanWrexham: “Miracle how they didn’t get a penalty tonight.”

@agwilliams86: “We were worse than worse, you controlled the game in atrocious conditions, and should have had a pen. A stone waller if I ever have seen one.”

@wrexhamfan1864: “The ref was our best player tonight, wish you all the best for the rest of the season. Proper club.”
