Hartlepool United Ladies in FA Cup upset at Blackpool Wren Rovers to set up Morecambe tie

Hartlepool United Ladies magical FA Cup run shows no sign of ending.

Pools pulled off a stunning upset at Blackpool in the third qualifying round when goals by Lucy Garrinton and Amy Cowan set up a 2-1 victory over Wren Rovers.

It has set them up with another away tie on the Lancashire coast with na trip to Morecambe on Sunday, November 8.

The side, formerly Seaton Carew, marked their debut as Pools last month when they beat Redcar 2-1 in extra-time at Bedford Terrace.

And they followed that up by producijng a great result at Blackpool Wren Rovers, who play in the Women’s Premier League Division One North, three divisions above Pools.

But Pool overturned the odds thanks to two first-half goals by Lucy Garrington at a 37th-minute corner before Amy Cowan doubled the lead five minutes later.

Blackpool pulled a goal back through Gemma Watson on the hour but Pools were not to be denied a great victory.

Morecambe will start favourites in the next round but given they are just one place above Blackpool in the Women’s Premier League Division One North table, Andy Stuart’s side can travel with hope of repeating this win.
