Pools were reduced to 10-men after Timi Odusina was shown a straight red card following a tussle with Jamey Osborne just inside the away half after 37-minutes.

The sides went in goalless at the break before goals from Krystian Pearce and James Ball saw The Moors run out as victors.

Challinor’s side had been on top before the sending off with Gavan Holohan hitting the post and the Hartlepool boss couldn’t hide his frustration with the referee following the full-time whistle.

“It was a good team between two good teams but the game is supposed to be made up of three good teams and unfortunately the third team were inept, that’s the best way to put it,” Challinor said.

“I don’t need to comment on his performance, I’d cost myself money if I say too much.

"The sending off offence is a blatant foul on Timi beforehand. Then to say it’s denying a clear goalscoring opportunity 45-yards from goal is a good one.

"I don’t want to see players sent off but the worst challenge of the game saw a yellow card for Osborne for a foul on Timi.

“The [red card] decision a game changer which affects the game and impact the result. It’s a difficult job, I get that but it wasn’t a good performance [from him].”

Challinor also criticised the lack of retrospective action referee Thomas Parsons will face following Tuesday night’s match.

"He won’t be held accountable for that," he added.

“It’ll just be brushed under the carpet and nothing will come of it and there will be no consequence. I’m not going to waste my time speaking to him, I’ll stick it into my report but the FA will do nothing about it as usual.

"But I can’t fault the players because they were unbelievably good. We’ve lost the game tonight but we didn’t deserve to and factors out of our control have caused us to come away from it with nothing.”
