Hartlepool United manager Dave Challinor drops big selection hint as he discusses potential returns to the starting line-up for goalkeeper Ben Killip and former Sunderland winger Luke Molyneux

Hartlepool United manager Dave Challinor has a couple of difficult decisions to make ahead of Saturday’s National League match at home to Aldershot Town (3pm kick-off).

Pools go into the game with no new injury concerns as Fraser Kerr (back), Luke James (groin), Michael Raynes (thigh), Adam Bale (knee) and Luke Williams (hamstring) remain sidelined.

But the suspension to Gavan Holohan has opened the door for someone else to come in.

“I’ve got an idea of how we’ll play,” Challinor said.

“I think Luke [Molyneux] will play a big part in the game and that from my perspective is the first opportunity I get to see him in a real competitive game if you like. He’ll still be short fitness wise but he’s worked really hard in training and has come in and done bits on his day off.

“I spoke to him before and he was telling me about his desire to really push himself back into the team. He’s had to be patient because the performances have been decent and he’s not been able to walk straight in.

“All of a sudden, with a door closing a door opens for a different body, whoever comes in it’s an opportunity that I’m sure they’ll take.

“I’m looking forward to the game because there are different things and different things that I’ve potentially not seen here.”

Challinor also has a decision to make in goal with Mitchell Beeney starting every match since the turn of the year in favour of Ben Killip.

“It’s something we’ve spoken about to be fair,” Challinor admitted regarding a potential return for Killip.

“We took Ben out of the firing line and there’s competition there now. What we want to be is challenged to have to make tough decisions and sometimes those decisions will become easy because the performances and the results will take care of that.

“All of a sudden when you haven’t performed then we have to make decisions.

“We’ve got an enforced decision with the suspension but we’ll look at other things. It’s about putting a team out that is set-up to win a game against Aldershot on Saturday.”
