Hartlepool took the lead thanks to a well worked goal from the returning Callum Cooke.
Cooke latched onto the end of Dan Kemp’s clever through ball to finish well.
But it wasn’t enough for John Askey’s side as they were left to rue a controversial penalty awarded by referee James Oldham for a foul on Harvey Saunders.
Josh Hawkes converted from 12-yards as the points were shared.
And here is how Pools were rated:

5. Edon Pruti - 6
Was a little erratic at times in the first half when trying to intercept Tranmere attacks. Covered over quite well for Ferguson who was allowed to get forward. Allowed Saunders in between with Murray for the penalty decision. Booked. (Photo: Chris Donnelly | MI News) Photo: Chris Donnelly

6. David Ferguson - 6
Operated more as a winger than in defence. Superb cross for Kemp in stoppage time. Continued his recent pick up in form. (Photo: Federico Guerra Maranesi | MI News) Photo: Federico Guerra Maranesi

7. Mohamad Sylla - 7
Sat in front of the defence well. Unlucky with an excellent effort in the first half. Seemed involved in a lot for Pools throughout the game. Complemented Cooke and Kemp well. (Credit: Scott Llewellyn | MI News) Photo: Scott Llewellyn

8. Callum Cooke - 8
Excellent return to the side. Some good deliveries from corners and showed some encouraging signs of link up with Kemp - including the goal. Great run and finish. Positive 60 minutes or so in the bank. (Photo: Chris Donnelly | MI News) Photo: Chris Donnelly
