Hoskins equalised for Northampton Town nine minutes from time after Josh Umerah scored his 14th goal of the season on his return to the Pools side.
But despite plenty of encouraging signs, it ended up being a worrying day for Hartlepool with results elsewhere going against them.
And here is how Pools fared in their latest Suit Direct Stadium draw:
5. Edon Pruti - 8
Got away with one when being caught by Hoskins inside his own area but was otherwise a really good display. Looked more solid defensively making a number of key clearances and stepped out really well in the first half in possession. (Photo: Michael Driver | MI News) Photo: Michael Driver
6. David Ferguson - 7
Really clever ball into Umerah for the goal when Jennings seemed like the easier pass. Linked well with Cooke on occasion to create a couple of chances. Good display and did well to keep his head after Lintott kick out in the first half. (Photo: Michael Driver | MI News) Photo: Michael Driver
7. Mo Sylla - 7
Another strong display from the midfielder. Two good efforts at goal - he kept them down well but Burge was equal to both. Solid defensively and was composed on the ball. (Photo: Mark Fletcher | MI News) Photo: Mark Fletcher
8. Callum Cooke - 7
Lively again with another 60 minutes or so in the bank. Couple of excellent corners and some good link up play down both wings. Can sense he likes partnering Kemp in midfield. (Credit: Mark Fletcher | MI News) Photo: Mark Fletcher
