Hartlepool United players and fans unite to raise over £10,000 for the NHS as part of Myles Anderson's 'Moving with Myles' initiative

Last month Hartlepool United defender Myles Anderson started the ‘Moving with Myles’ initiative to help raise money for the NHS. This weekend, donations passed £10,000.

Since then, players and fans from across the National League jumped on board and got active to help the fundraising effort.

Sunday saw over 120 Poolies ‘move with Myles’ and help smash the £10,000 milestone together.

“It was certainly special that we were able to reach that 10k mark on the day all the Pools players and fans all got together,” Anderson told the Mail.

“The North West Corner boys set up a Paypal account for people to donate and on Sunday alone we raised over £2,000.

“It was a special day for everyone at Hartlepool United and I think we can all be extremely proud to be Poolies.

“I have to give a massive thank you to everyone who got involved. We saw the passion, loyalty and support the Poolies show week in week out on full display once again on Sunday.

“Special mention to Neil Douglas from HUFC bible, Alex Chandy at the club and all the lads from the NWC.

“I have to give a shout-out to Macauley Southam-Hales as well for donating £282 after doing a seven-mile sponsored run.”

Anderson is one of many professional footballers out-of-contract and facing a spell of uncertainty following the shutdown of football due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“This has been a great way to take your focus away from all of the uncertainty,” added the 30-year-old defender.

“Players right now have no idea what is going on with contracts, myself included.

“We’re all in the same boat and I feel this has helped bring some light-hearted joy and community spirit for people to get involved with and enjoy themselves during these clearly difficult times.”

In addition to the impressive amount of money raised, Anderson admitted he’s been particularly humbled by how the initiative has been able to bring people together during a difficult time.

“It’s amazing to look back through the page [@myles_for_the_NHS] and remind ourselves where we started where it was just me and Hollie running in a field,” he continued.

“It’s overwhelming to see how it’s progressed from me and my sister running on our own to now knowing that we’ve got hundreds of people out there doing it with us. It’s given us all some great memories by bringing people together to get fit for an incredible cause and raise money for the NHS who need us so much right now.

“Everyone is inspiring everyone and I really hope each team in the National League does it and is enthusiastic and epitomises what a fantastic league can be.

“It’s real, everyone is hard-working, honest and I hope everyone gets to experience what we got to on Sunday. We’ve nominated Aldershot to do their run and Harrogate will do theirs next week and hopefully it will keep going through the teams and through the leagues from there.”
