First half goals from Luke Molyneux, Gavan Holohan and Tyler Magloire put Pools in control going into half-time before Joe Quigley pulled one back for the hosts.

It was one-way traffic in the second half as Yeovil searched for a way back into the game but couldn’t get past a resilient Hartlepool defence.

The win ends a run of four matches without victory for Pools and takes them up to seventh in the National League table ahead of Tuesday night’s trip to Barnet. And after asking questions of his players following recent results, the Pools boss was thrilled with their response at Huish Park.

“I’m delighted, it answered a lot of questions that we were asking before the game to be fair,” Challinor said following the full-time whistle.

“Especially in the second half with how Yeovil put us under pressure with our young defence and goalkeeper from under-23s football. They asked them whether they could deal with proper non-league football defending and they’ve absolutely done that.”

A ruthless first half display ultimately proved to be the difference for Pools as they dominated proceedings in the opening 45-minutes.

“The first half as a performance was outstanding and our shape was unbelievably good and the opportunities we created were great on the counter attack,” Challinor added.

"We scored three and missed a few easy chances but if we’re creating six chances and scoring three then that’s how it is. There are massive positives and we look forward to Tuesday now.”
